'Briefing' in the Black, 'Dallas Morning News' Parent Says

Posted
By: Mark Fitzgerald Briefing, the free daily delivered to upscale households in Dallas since late last summer, is already cash flow-positive, according to its parent company.

In remarks to analysts Monday after reporting A.H. Belo's second-quarter earnings, Chairman and CEO Robert Decherd said Briefing earned $1.7 million in the quarter and was "EBITDA-positive (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amoritzation) for the entire quarter."

Briefing, which was launched late last August, is a four-day-a-week condensed version of Belo's flagship Dallas Morning News. It is distributed to about 200,000 targeted households.

Decherd also proclaimed Belo's involvement in the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium a success, saying its three dailies had booked more than $2.3 million in sales through Yahoo's behavioral targeted ad platform or through its ad inventory.
