By: Jack Brimeyer, managing editor of the (Peoria) Journal Star, has announced he will retire after nearly 26 years at the newspaper.
The 59-year-old editor informed the newsroom staff today. The paper won the Illinois Press Association's news sweepstakes honors 6 of the past seven years under his leadership.
Publisher Ken Mauser says a new managing editor will be named soon. The paper was purchased by GateHouse Media earlier this year.
Brimeyer worked for many years as a reporter and editor at the Dubuque (Iowa) Telegraph Herald.
He is a member of the Illinois Associated Press Editors Executive Board and serves as chairman of its membership committee. He also serves on the boards of the Illinois First Amendment Center and the Mid-America Press Institute.
