British Town Backs Plan to Erect Statue of Andy Capp

By: E&P Staff Plans to erect an Andy Capp statue were backed in a survey of Hartlepool, England, residents.

According to a story on a British Web site, 406 of 527 Hartlepool poll respondents were OK with building a bronze remembrance of the cartoon character.

Late "Andy Capp" creator Reg Smythe was from Hartlepool. His comic -- which stars a sexist, hard-drinking guy -- continues to be distributed by Creators Syndicate.
