Broder Label: Out of 'Left' Field

By: E&P Staff David Broder, while conducting a WashingtonPost.com chat today, was told by a reader that The Kansas City (Mo.) Star labels him in its pages as a columnist from "the left."

Broder replied: "I was not aware of the labeling. I resist being labeled, and I will so inform the Kansas City paper."

The Star lists various columnists by ideology. Actually, Broder is a centrist whose commentary is nowhere near "the left." But given all the very conservative columnists in syndication, perhaps Broder's feature appears more liberal than it is.

Broder is syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group.
