Bubba Mania Hits Press

Posted
By: E&P Staff With publication of former President Bill Clinton's long-awaited memoir now set for June, the press is already abuzz with speculation about what might be in it, and how it could impact the presidential race.

Pre-orders of the books have already placed it as an astounding #1 on the Barnes and Noble online chart, and #7 on the amazon.com chart (as of Monday morning, May 3). Neither site even has a book cover to display. Both are marking down the $35 book to $21.

"Clinton Pre-Orders are Hot," gushed the New York Post (no fan of the ex-president).

Barnes & Noble said it was the first time a book had reached #1 on its chart almost 60 days before publication. Several newspapers have reported that publisher Knopf plans to print 1.5 million copies, and that Clinton is feverishly trying to finish writing the manuscript.

Barnes & Noble reports that those pre-ordering the book also tended to order recent books by Bob Woodward, Richad Clarke and (no surprise) Hillary Clinton. Amazon said that those who shopped for the Bill Clinton volume seemed to also be interested in (among other things) the "Master and Commander," "Kill Bill --Volume I" and "The Last Samurai" DVDs, and the "Kill Bill -- Volume 1" soundtrack CD. Maybe they just like all things Bill.
