William R. Burleigh, president of the E.W. Scripps Co., has been named chairman of the media industry corporation. Burleigh, 63, has been a member of the board of directors since 1990 and president and chief executive officer since 1996. Burleigh succeeds Lawrence A. Leser, who held the post for nearly five years and did not seek re-election.
