Business Wire Marking 100th Anniversary of PR Industry

By: E&P Staff Business Wire will mark the 100th anniversary of the public relations industry with conferences, open houses, and seminars in each of its domestic offices.

"2006 marks the 100th anniversary of Ivy Lee's first press release, which for all intents and purposes was the birth of the public relations industry," said Michael Lissauer, executive vice president marketing and business strategy for Business Wire.

Most of the events will occur in October, which also marks the 45th anniversary of Business Wire's founding. The main event will be a panel discussion in New York on Oct. 3 that's titled "Centennial Celebration of the Press Release: Exploring the Past, Present, and Future of Public Relations."

Other events will be in Atlanta Oct. 3, Boston Oct. 12, Charlotte Oct. 3, Chicago Oct. 12, Cleveland Oct. 11, Dallas Oct. 5, Denver Oct. 5, Detroit Oct. 4, Houston Oct. 5, Los Angeles Oct. 12, Miami Sept. 22, Minneapolis on a date to be determined, Nashville Oct. 11, Newport Beach and San Diego Oct. 25, Philadelphia Oct. 3, Phoenix Oct. 5, San Antonio Oct. 12, San Francisco and Silicon Valley Oct. 3, Seattle Oct. 4, and Washington, D.C., Oct. 12.
