Buyouts at Maryland Paper Hit 21% of Work Force

By: E&P Staff Capital Gazette Communications in Annapolis, Md., has offered voluntary buyouts to 50 employees -- or about 21% of its workforce -- at its The Capital, Bowie Blade-News and Maryland Gazette newspapers.

Those eligible must be over 50 and with the company at least 15 years.

The company, which cited advertising losses, has 233 full-time employees.

Early this year the Merrill family moved to transfer ownership in Capital Gazette Newspapers to Landmark Communications, a longtime partner.
