By: E&P Staff A taxicab driver in San Francisco has sued the San Francisco Chronicle Tuesday over a front-page photograph of him that ran in the newspaper, according to the paper. The picture mistakenly identified him as a police officer accused of using excessive force.
Jack Neeley Jr., 43, says the picture has caused him emotional distress and embarassment, and he says he had to cut his work hours as a result, according to an article in today's Chronicle. Neeley says that he has recently "placed in situations which nearly escalated into violence" and he says he remains afraid that a person mistaking him for the officer will try to injure or kill him.
Neeley's picture was published both on the front page and an inside page of the newspaper on Feb. 5. He was identified as Officer John Haggett, who has been suspended three times for excessive use of force and has repeatedly been the subject of citizens complaints, some alleging brutality or unjustified arrests.
The Chronicle says it hopes to settle the matter with Neeley out of court.
