By: Dave Astor The U.S. economy is so bad that even cartoon characters aren't immune.
"Cafe con Leche" comic creator Charlos Gary told E&P today that he's currently writing a series in which the Trey character (who's in a biracial marriage with Maria) gets laid off.
"This one is close to home, since I was let go from the St. Petersburg Times back in May," said Gary. "Victim of the sagging economy, I guess. I work in a lot of elements from my own life with the series."
More about the strips -- which start Sept. 8 and continue for a few weeks -- can be seen in
this Tuesday blog post by Gary.
He does "Cafe con Leche" for Creators Syndicate, which also distributes Gary's "Working It Out" comic. That latter panel was one of the syndicated features spotlighted in E&P's May 2008 magazine story about how work-related comics and columns are addressing the troubled U.S. economy.
