Cagle Calls CNN's Cartoon Terms 'Outrageously Absurd'

By: E&P Staff CNN's announcement that it's seeking editorial cartoons is great news for political artists, right? Maybe not.

The cable network said on its Web site that it "wants your best editorial cartoons. Send animations, videos, or still images."

But, as Daryl Cagle noted on his editorial-cartooning blog (http://cagle.MSNBC.com/news/blog/), CNN's "terms of use" are "so outrageously absurd that they would make a good cartoon."

The terms include: "By submitting your material ... you hereby grant to CNN and its affiliates a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to edit, telecast, rerun, reproduce, use, syndicate, license, print, sublicense, distribute, and otherwise exhibit the materials you submit ... in any manner and in any medium or forum, whether now known or hereafter devised, without payment to you or any third party. ... [And] CNN has the right to edit and/or alter any submission."
