Calhoun City 'Monitor-Herald' to Fold

Posted
By: The Monitor-Herald, a weekly newspaper based in Calhoun City, will cease publication Dec. 31.

Journal Inc., the paper's owner since 2005 and whose holdings include other weeklies and the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, announced the decision in Friday's editions.

Journal Inc. chairman Billy Crews says the company will continue to operate the weekly Calhoun County Journal in Bruce.

Crews says weekly paid circulation at the Monitor-Herald has increased 42 percent to 811 since Journal Inc. bought the paper four years ago, but the Calhoun County Journal is much larger with a circulation of 4,700.

Crews says The Monitor-Herald has the smallest in circulation and revenues in the Journal Inc. group.
