Calkins Media, Inc. Appoints VP Digital Officer

Levittown, Pa.-- Calkins Media, Inc. has appointed Guy Tasaka as vice president / chief digital officer.

In this capacity, Tasaka will be responsible for Calkins' interactive media efforts and work with company leaders to develop the company's interactive strategy for its broadcast television and print businesses. He will report directly to Calkins Media, Inc. chief executive officer Mark G. Contreras and become a member of the company's senior management team.

Tasaka is a nationally-recognized leader in digital media and paid content and has had a career spanning research, marketing, circulation, business development, product development and strategy development working in both media and technology companies.

He began his media career as research manager for Macworld Magazine in 1989 before moving to Ziff-Davis Publishing in 1991.

He then began a long career with The New York Times beginning in 1995. Tasaka joined The New York Times as market research director, where he worked on the project that would eventually become nytimes.com. He later moved to marketing strategy and planning where he was involved in the newspaper's national expansion strategy developing the companies first national advertising zone strategy.

He moved to Seattle and took on a role as regional circulation manager with responsibility for the sales, marketing and distribution of The New York Times in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada.

In the middle of 2003, Tasaka was named product manager, New York Times’ electronic edition where he was responsible for the overall management of the newspaper's first digital subscription product. In this role, he was responsible for the overall strategic development of the digital replica of the newspaper.

In 2006, Tasaka joined LibreDigital / Newstand, Inc as director of product development where he and his team developed the model for eNIE utilizing digital editions.  In 2008, he developed the systems and business model around transforming newspaper and magazine content for distribution on the Sony Reader and Barnes and Noble Nook.

He founded Tasaka Digital in 2009 in Newcastle, Wash. as a strategy and product development company to help guide newspaper and magazine publishers through the rapidly changing technology landscape.  His company has pioneered the development of digital publishing ecosystems to futureproof newspapers' paths to mobile and tablet platforms.  TasakaDigital has developed the digital strategies for two top 50 newspapers.
