USC Annenberg offers all-expenses-paid mini fellowship with $2,000-$10,000 stipends for reporting on health.
When: July 22-26, 2012
Where: Los Angeles
Deadline to Apply April 16, 2012
USC Annenberg is offering an all-expenses-paid mini fellowship on community health issues. The
National Health Journalism Fellowship allows journalists to step away from their daily routines to spend five days in Los Angeles exploring the role that factors such as race, ethnicity, pollution, violence, and transportation and land-use policy play in prospects for good health. The Fellowship is open to print, broadcast, and online journalists from around the country, both employed and freelance. We’re looking for any journalist with a passion for health stories, not just those on the health beat. National fellows receive a $2,000 grant to underwrite reporting on a substantive health topic.
Two other grant programs include participation in the National Fellowship, plus support for more specialized reporting.
The
Dennis A. Hunt Fund for Health Journalism provides grants of $2,500 to $10,000 to support reporting on community health. And the new
Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health Journalism Fund provides grants of $2,000-$5,000 to support reporting on children's health in California (eligibility limited to journalists who contribute to media outlets in California). The
California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships program at USC is the sponsor. Deadline for all grants: April 16. For more information, visit www.reportingonhealth.org or e-mail Martha Shirk at
Cahealth@usc.edu.
