By: E&P Staff In Annapolis, Md., The Capital's Web site, hometownannapolis, reported late Tuesday that its publisher, Capital Gazette Communications, will eliminate 31 full-time and 51 part-time printing and packaging positions as of March 2 when it outsources all its printing to Comprint Printing, Laurel, Md.
The publisher is owned by a Landmark Enterprises, Norfolk, Va. The printer, owned by the Post-Newsweek Media division of The Washington Post Co., operates a 2-year-old Mitsubishi DiamondStar press capable of printing process color on every page of a 96-page broadsheet or two 96-page tabloids, at 90,000 copies per hour.
Another 29 job cuts will be made across all Capital Gazette departments, but will not include reporters. Severance packages ranged from 12 weeks to one year for full-time employees; part-timers were eligible for a two-week bonus, according to the company.
