Cards Comfort Those Afflicted -- With Football Losses

By: E&P Staff As the NFL playoffs start this weekend, the "Girls & Sports" cartoonists are ready ... with "football condolence cards."

The cards are for those people who want to cheer up -- or talk trash to -- friends grieving after their team gets defeated.

One card contains a cover message saying: "Sending you heartfelt sympathy for your tragic loss." Inside, a devastated fan is pictured lying on a sofa as a TV announcer blares: "The pass is incomplete and that'll do it!! Game over!!" -- followed by the message: "And remember, there's always next season!"

There are also condolence cards for other sports, including basketball and baseball.

Justin Borus and Andrew Feinstein (profiled in E&P, February 2006) do the "Girls & Sports" comic for Creators Syndicate.

Waymo’s model makes the case for AI, with measurable consumer benefits

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
