Carlisle, Pa. 'Sentinel' Drops Syndicated Content from its Op-Ed Pages

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Sentinel in Carlisle, Pa., is dropping its syndicated content from its editorial pages, just one of many alterations the paper will see this week.

In a Jan. 31 note to readers, Executive Editor Hope Stephan outlined many of the changes they can expect from the Sentinel beginning Tuesday, including the reduction to an 11-inch page width, a new typeface she describes as ?sharper and somewhat darker,? and content changes in the Sunday TV book, among others.

?Avid readers of the opinion pages will also notice a change,? Stephan writes. ?We will no longer present a daily page containing syndicated columns from other news outlets. Instead, a Viewpoints page will appear on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. During the week, it will feature two columnists -- sometimes local, sometimes not, plus editorial cartoons and letters from readers.?

The Sentinel, which did not return E&P?s request for comment as to which syndicated features/columns were eliminated, has not increased its price in at least eight years.
