Carol Burnett Almost Became a Cartoonist

Posted
By: E&P Staff Renowned comedian Carol Burnett wanted to be a cartoonist when she was growing up, according to an interview published in yesterday's Houston Chronicle.

"I grew up listening to radio comedy shows, but never had an inkling I'd be a performer," Burnett told the Chronicle's Everett Evans. "I wanted to be a cartoonist. I'd edited the high school newspaper, but when I got to UCLA, there was no major in journalism. So I took a course in that and majored in theater arts."

The Chronicle article was mentioned today on Tom Spurgeon's ComicsReporter.com blog.
