By: E&P Staff Gary Varvel's editorial cartoons, paintings, and other work will be exhibited at the Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis.
The show starts with an Aug. 7 evening event and continues through August, according to a report by Daily Cartoonist blogger Alan Gardner.
Varvel's Indianapolis Star cartoons are distributed by Creators Syndicate.
Gardner also mentioned two other exhibits.
One is an Aug. 15-Sept. 14 "Manga & Anime" show at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville, Calif., that will include the work of "Secret Asian Man" cartoonist Tak Toyoshima of United Media.
The other is an Oct. 24-Jan. 4 exhibit titled "Out of Sequence: Underrepresented Voices in American Comics" at the Krannert Art Museum in Champaign, Ill. Among the cartoonists whose work will be displayed are Toyoshima, Alison Bechdel (author of the "Fun Home" graphic memoir and creator of the self-syndicated "Dykes to Watch Out For" comic), Ray Billingsley ("Curtis"/King Features Syndicate), Jerry Craft ("Mama's Boyz"/King Features Weekly Service), Keith Knight ("The Knight Life"/United), and Ann Telnaes (who now does WashingtonPost.com animations).
Also featured will be the work of late cartoonists such as Gus Arriola, Oliver Harrington, Dale Messick, and Jackie Ormes.
