Cartoonist Creig Flessel Dies at 96

By: E&P Staff Creig Flessel, whose wide-ranging cartooning career included stints doing newspaper comics, died last Thursday at the age of 96.

Flessel worked in the comic book field, did advertising art, and more. His newspaper efforts included serving as an assistant on the "Dixie Dugan" comic and Al Capp's "Li'l Abner" strip, and drawing the "David Crane" comic.

The award-winning cartoonist was born in Long Island, N.Y. (the son of a blacksmith) and later moved to California.
