Cartoonist Does it All for Indiana Paper

Posted
By: E&P Staff The South Bend (Ind.) Tribune's Ron Rogers is one hard-working cartoonist.

A Saturday piece by Tribune Managing Editor Tim Harmon noted that Rogers -- in addition to doing three editorial cartoons a week for the paper -- also draws Sunday illustrations for various stories and columns. In addition, Rogers does a collection of mini-cartoons called "Rewind: The Week in Review."

Rogers worked for other newspapers in Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana, Ohio, and Indiana before moving to the South Bend area with his wife Donna -- the Tribune's night editor -- in 2002.

Harmon said Rogers first drew for the Tribune as a freelancer before becoming a staffer. He also pointed out that Rogers, as an African-American editorial cartoonist, is a rarity. Most staff editorial cartoonists on general-interest U.S. dailies are white.
