Cartoonist Irwin Caplan Dies at Age 87

By: E&P Staff Irwin Caplan, a magazine cartoonist who also did two syndicated comics, died Thursday from complications related to Parkinson's disease. He was 87.

His newspaper strips were "Famous Last Words" and "48 States of Mind"; and his magazine outlets included the Saturday Evening Post, Life, Esquire, and other publications. Caplan also painted, and had teaching stints at the University of Washington School of Art and Seattle Central Community College.
