Cartoonist Jeff Koterba Does Illustrated Essay for 'Omaha World-Herald'

By: E&P Staff Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald editorial cartoonist Jeff Koterba has done a 5,000-word illustrated essay for his newspaper.

"The three-part essay was inspired by the demolition of a couple of significant buildings in Omaha -- one of which was the old World-Herald building," Koterba told E&P today. "But mostly the piece is about my personal cartooning history, meeting my first cartoonist, etc. So although the piece may sound Omaha-centric, my hope is that the themes are more universal."

Part one of the essay is titled "A cartoonist's downtown journey"; part two is "An early implosion, a career's early sketches"; and part three is "Two great adventures: cartooning, fatherhood."

Koterba, whose work is syndicated by King Features, said the response to the essay "has been overwhelming. I've heard from everyone from Sen. Chuck Hagel to my high school journalism teacher."

The illustrated essays can be seen here.
