By: Dave Astor This Sunday's "Non Sequitur" comic will congratulate the winner of this Saturday night's Reuben Award -- even though the strip is already done and submitted.
"Yep, I crawled out on that limb," cartoonist Wiley Miller told E&P today.
The three finalists for the top-cartoonist-of-the-year Reuben -- presented annually at the National Cartoonists Society gathering -- are Dave Coverly ("Speed Bump"/Creators Syndicate), Dan Piraro ("Bizarro"/King Features Syndicate), and longtime Mad magazine cartoonist Al Jaffee.
On a number of occasions in the past, the Reuben has gone to a cartoonist as sort of a lifetime-achievement award rather than for the best work of the previous year.
The winner of the Reuben is a secret each year until the award is announced.
This Saturday's Reuben ceremony will be in New Orleans.
"Non Sequitur" appears in more than 700 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate.
