Cartoonist Wright Accepts 'Detroit News' Buyout

By: E&P Staff Editorial cartoonist Larry Wright has accepted a buyout from The Detroit News, the newspaper announced.

"I will continue to draw three editorial cartoons a week for the News on a freelance basis and have agreed to be a Web-site consultant, but I will no longer have to make the daily 60-mile roundtrip into downtown," said the former Association of American Editorial Cartoonists president, as quoted on the AAEC's EditorialCartoonists.com site.

Wright, who ran the AAEC site for many years, became a News cartoonist in 1976. He also does the "Kit 'N' Carlyle" comic for United Media.

Henry Payne -- who's syndicated by United, too -- continues to serve as the News' editorial cartoonist.

The Wright buyout story was also covered on DailyCartoonist.com and ComicsReporter.com.
