By: Dave Astor Syndicated cartoonists will be among the creators appearing at "Walt Disney's Hometown Toonfest" this Saturday in Marceline, Mo.
They include "Luann" creator Greg Evans of United Media, "Marmaduke" creator Brad Anderson of United, and "Ziggy" cartoonist Tom Wilson Jr. of Universal Press Syndicate. Evans won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award as top cartoonist of the year this May at an NCS meeting in Kansas City, Mo.
This Friday in Marceline, a "Toonfest" program for students will be emceed by Mike Peters, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News editorial cartoonist and "Mother Goose & Grimm" comic creator syndicated by King Features. Also scheduled to appear at that event are Evans, Anderson, Wilson, and editorial cartoonist Jeff Koterba of the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald and King.
A major "Toonfest" sponsor is Universal's parent company, Andrews McMeel Universal of Kansas City. And the NCS' North Central chapter is sponsoring a cartoon exhibit in Marceline on Saturday.
Disney lived in Marceline -- located 115 miles northeast of Kansas City -- as a boy from 1906 to 1911.
