Cartoonist's Court Pick is Out of Right Field

Posted
By: E&P Staff Today's editorial cartoon by Steve Benson jokingly names a controversial syndicated columnist as President Bush's choice to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the first panel, Benson shows Bush saying: "To replace Justice O'Connor, I have chosen a person of dignity, temperance, and gravitas on matters of constitutional law." Then, in the second panel, Bush announces that his pick is conservative firebrand Ann Coulter.

Coulter's column is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate. Benson does his cartoons for The Arizona Republic of Phoenix and United Media.
