Cartoonists' Football Bet Involves YouTube or Jumping in Water

Posted Thursday, January 3, 2008 12:00 am

By: Dave Astor Editorial cartoonists Clay Jones and Eric Devericks have made an interesting wager for this Saturday's Washington Redskins-Seattle Seahawks playoff game.

"If the Seahawks win I have to write a song and perform it on YouTube," Jones told E&P today. "The song will be about how great the Seahawks are and how awful the Redskins are. If the Redskins win Eric has to jump into Puget Sound wearing a Redskins T-shirt."

Jones -- who said the football bet is "going to be fun" -- does his cartoons for The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, Va., and Creators Syndicate. Devericks is with The Seattle Times.

The wager is also discussed on Jones' blog . Devericks' blog can be seen here.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
