By: E&P Staff The annual "Cartoons & Cocktails" event will take place tonight at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Editorial cartoons will be sold via a silent auction starting at 6 p.m. and a live auction starting at 7 p.m.

Among the celebrity auctioneers will be editorial cartoonists Mike Luckovich, the 2006 Pulitzer Prize winner from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Creators Syndicate; Joel Pett of the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader and Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate/New York Times Syndicate; and Kevin "KAL" Kallaugher of The Economist magazine and CWS/NYTS.

They and other editorial cartoonists will also create two pieces of art during the evening for auctioning. Those expected to participate include Tom Toles of The Washington Post and Universal Press Syndicate; Clay Jones of The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg, Va., and Creators; and a number of others.

The event -- which was mentioned on DailyCartoonist.com -- raises money for the Cartoonists Rights Network, the Young D.C. program that offers teens newspaper experience, and the Ellen Masin Persina Scholarship for needy students interested in journalism.
