By: E&P Staff "Bizarro" cartoonist Dan Piraro is asking his fellow creators for original cartoons that can be auctioned to raise money for the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary in Willow, N.Y.

"Last time we held an art auction, in 2004, it made more money than any of our other fundraising events and the cartoon art sold the most quickly," said Piraro, whose comic is syndicated by King Features.

He added that the auction-sale proceeds will go toward "procuring and caring for rescued animals and educating the public about the health and environmental hazards of our current factory farming system, as well as animal-cruelty issues in general."

Art donations should be sent before May 1 to: Dan Piraro c/o Jenny Brown, Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, 35 Van Wagner Rd., Willow, N.Y. 12495. If cartoonists want the sanctuary to cover shipping costs, they should e-mail Brown at jenny@woodstockfas.org.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
