Caspio Bridge, Now in Version 6.0, Rolling Out to All Morris Sites

By: E&P Staff Caspio Inc., Mountain View, Calif., announced today that the new Caspio Bridge 6.0 offers enhanced Web 2.0 capabilities to deliver more interactive and integrated Web applications and widgets. The release also includes features like Captcha security and AJAX interactivity.

At the same time, Caspio said that Morris Publishing Group has expanded use of Caspio Bridge to power dozens of popular applications on six more sites and is rolling out the platform to its remaining sites. Since the beginning of this year, its Florida Times-Union's Jacksonville.com has driven more than 2 million incremental page views on viewer searches powered by easy-to-build Caspio applications.

Caspio Bridge enables Morris sites to quickly create and deploy searchable databases and applications. Minutes after Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores were released, the Times-Union posted a searchable database of school ratings by county, school and grade. Twenty minutes later, the site used Caspio to post 10 years of historical data for comparison. The data generated more than 40,000 page views on the first day.

Caspio Bridge reduces the load on Morris' servers by hosting the database information and handling viewer traffic. The Morris Publishing Group subsidiary of privately held Morris Communications Co., Augusta, Ga., publishes 13 dailies, as well as nondaily newspapers, city magazines and free community publications in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and Alaska.

Jacksonville.com now offers more than two-dozen customized searchable databases and applications built on Caspio, including a restaurant guide (with widget to check health inspection reports), crime and sex offender information by neighborhood, school and voter applications, summer camp finders, and event information.

Caspio's location-based applications provide geocentric capabilities that including database-driven mashups with Yahoo! or Google maps, distance search within a certain radius of a location or Zip Code, and mass geo-coding for assigning location tags to records in very large databases.

Version 6.0 offers one-click insertion of Captcha human-verification technology for any application to prompt users to enter security codes (also available as an audio recording for visually impaired users) when submitting forms and searches, effectively blocking Spam and-data harvesting robots.

AJAX features for end-user applications include cascading dropdowns and listboxes for dynamic granular filtering. Integration is now possible with popular social networking and ecommerce sites.
