By: E&P Staff As marriage nears for Cathy and Irving, about $10,000 in real money has been raised through the cartoon couple's online gift registry for homeless animals.
In late December and again on Jan. 15, the "Cathy" comic mentioned the
registry. Donations from the strip's readers will help The Pet Orphans of Southern California in Los Angeles, a shelter where cartoonist Cathy Guisewite and her daughter work as volunteers.
The Universal Press Syndicate-distributed Guisewite -- who's scheduled to be a guest on tomorrow's "Jane Pauley Show" -- is having her characters tie the knot in the Feb. 5 "Cathy."
