'Cathy' Wedding Registry Will Help Animals

Posted
By: E&P Staff The "Cathy" wedding day is set for Feb. 5, and the comic's cartoon couple has a gift registry that will benefit homeless dogs and cats.

Like other older couples, Cathy and Irving have already amassed much of what they need. So the items listed on their gift registry (at www.thebigday.com/cathy) all benefit Pet Orphans of Southern California, a not-for-profit rescue organization for dogs and cats. The items include meals, vet checkups, and the like, all of which can be charged to credit cards. "Cathy" creator Cathy Guisewite -- who volunteers with her daughter at Pet Orphans -- and TheBigDay.com got things started with a donation of $1,000.

Guisewite said each person who contributes during the campaign, which lasts until Feb. 28, will receive a thank-you note from Cathy and Irving and an autographed copy of their wedding photo.

Cathy and Irving's shelter-adopted dogs, Electra and Vivian, will be the ring bearers at the Feb. 5 wedding.

Guisewite occasionally addresses pet-protection and animal-rights issues in her comic, which appears in more than 1,200 papers via Universal Press Syndicate.
