By: Meg Campbell CCI Europe of Arhus, Denmark, has released version 2.1 of its NewsGate content management system. The upgrades include the ability to paginate with Adobe InDesign and InCopy CS3, two-way integration to third-party online publishing systems, and two-way TV integration to the AP?s ENPS news production system, among other features.
A new module, CCI Edit for Adobe InCopy, has been incorporated into Release 2.1 that allows users to "write-to-fit" against InDesign article layouts and to produce a full newspaper product using InDesign/Adobe InCopy. CCI Page Design allows access to multiple pages in single InDesign session and support for jump functionality that allows text to flow over multiple pages in linked text containers.
The new release includes two-way integration to a third party online publishing system such as Escenic, which can be executed in any of three ways: Content can be created in NewsGate and exported to the online system (updates made online are auatomatically applied to the content back in Newsgate); content can be created in the online publishing system and launched from NewsGate; or online content created in the online publishing system can be automatically imported to and stored in a NewsGate story folder.
CCI has also created two-way integration between NewsGate and the AP ENPS news production system for those users with TV stations. CCI has plans to integrate the Avid production system in the future.
Other new features include support for MAC OS X workstations, advanced flash, photo and graphics workflow, the ability to plan spread/double truck for non-consecutive pages, and CCI LongTermStorage, a separate long-term storage area for story folder content and finished printed/published pages.
