'Cedar Rapids Gazette' Carriers Held Up at Gunpoint

Posted
By: E&P Staff Two Cedar Rapids Gazette carriers reported a man held them up at gunpoint while they were delivering their route early Thursday morning.

According to an unbylined story in the Gazette Friday, Billy Lingo and his wife Lisa were delivering papers at about 4:45 a.m. when a man got out of a green van and approached them, yelling, ?What?s up? What the (expletive) you want to do??

The man, described as a black male in his mid-20s, pulled out a gun when Lingo replied that the couple was simply delivering newspapers. He repeated his questions, then ran into a nearby apartment complex, the couple reported.

The couple, who have been Gazette carriers for the past five months, delivered the rest of their route Friday morning, but dropped off all newspapers for the apartment complex at its main office.

"We're not gonna get shot over no paper," Lisa Lingo told the Gazette. Neither carrier was injured in the incident.
