By: E&P Staff Central Ink Corp. raised all non-heatset black inks $0.12 per pound, all non-heatset color inks by 8%, and all heatset color inks by 6% as of July 1.
The company, headquartered in West Chicago, Ill., attributed the need to increase prices to the rising costs of raw materials.
The action, similar to that taken by larger competitors in recent weeks, is largely a response to the rapid rise in price of petroleum, from which most ink components are derived. Other ink manufacturers also have cited demand in overseas markets and changes in the supply of chemicals used in color inks' pigments.
