Cesar Pizarro, Instrumental In Launch Of 'El Nuevo Herald,' To Retire

By: E&P Staff Cesar Pizarro, an early pioneer of The Miami Herald's Hispanic marketing who was instrumental in the launch of the Spanish-language daily El Nuevo Herald, announced Thursday he is retiring, the Herald said.

In a memo to staffers, David A. Landsberg, the president and publisher of the Herald and president and general manager of El Nuevo Herald, announced the retirement with "mixed emotions."

"Since the 1980s, there has been no single individual in our company more closely associated with our strategy in the Hispanic marketplace in general, or with the success of El Nuevo Herald, in particular," Landsberg wrote.

Pizzaro is vice president and business manager of El Nuevo Herald.

He began his career at the Herald in 1974, and served as circulation director of its joint operating agreement partner, the old The Miami News.

He was regional sales manager for the Herald and El Nuevo Herald; director of display ad sales, national advertising director, director of Spanish
language publications, and director of Hispanic market and international advertising.

"He was a key player in the launch of El Nuevo Herald in 1987 as well as the decision to market El Nuevo separately from The Miami Herald in 1998," Landsberg wrote.

Pizarro told Landsberg he would spend his retirement traveling, working at his wife's catering business and "living la vida loca."

"That's a direct quote," Landsberg said.
