Changes to Some Sun Media Papers' Practices, Products

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Cochrane (Ontario) Times-Post reports today that it and Sun Media newspapers in Timmons and Kapuskasing are looking for ways to "maintain services, hold the line on prices and protect staff" in the face of the industry's mounting economic woes.

Measures include centralizing accounting and French-language news services in Kapuskasing (native-language services for products serving First Nations People were centered in Cochrane last year), moving ad design to Timmins (where it joins prepress work at the Norweb printing plant) and relying on e-mail and telephone contact with customers in order to reduce office hours.

At the same time, the papers' and Web sites' content will be expanded beyond local news to include health, finance, social events and pastimes.

The Times-Post quotes its group's publisher, Wayne Major, saying that said "by allowing employees to concentrate more on key areas, the attention given to those subjects will enhance our news coverage, and give our sales teams more time to develop new and exciting marketing opportunities."
