Charlie Brown Is One 'Angst-Ridden Dude,' Says MTV.com

By: E&P Staff Who's the fourth-most "anxious, tortured, angst-ridden dude in moviedom"? None other than Charlie Brown, according to an MTV.com article that ComicsReporter.com linked to today.

Karl Heitmueller's article had this to say about the famous "Peanuts" cartoon character: "Granted, Charlie Brown's film career is tertiary to his work in the comic strips and on television, but he remains all gloom and doom in the movies, from 1969's 'A Boy Named Charlie Brown' through 1980's 'Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!).'"

Heitmueller continued: "On an exchange-student trip to France, who but Charlie Brown could end up at the Chateau of the Bad Neighbor? Still, while in a constant state of angst over his lousy baseball team, poor kite-flying ability or that darn little red-haired girl, at least Charlie Brown never gives up. Gotta admire the blockhead."

Among the other anxious characters in the top 10: Woody Allen's Alvy Singer in "Annie Hall" (no. 10), Batman (no. 2), and James Dean's Jim Stark in "Rebel Without a Cause" (no. 1).

"Peanuts" reruns are syndicated by United Media.
