By: E&P Staff Next month, The Daily Astorian, Astoria, Ore., will install a new press line valued at approximately $500,000 and replacing equipment that is several decades older.
The press consists of two Tensor color towers and five Goss units and a folder -- all formerly owned by the Chicago Sun-Times, according to a report yesterday in the Astorian.
?Finding these units was very good fortune," Editor and Publisher Steve Forrester told his paper, crediting Systems Manager Carl Earl and Pressroom Foreman Jim Stanovich with seeking out and vetting the equipment.
The press will provide the newspaper and its commercial customers half again as much color and greater page capacity. The Astorian's plant also prints nine local newspapers and several high school newspapers.
