Chicago Sun-Times Shuffles Senior Management

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Sun-Times News Group has announced a restructuring of its senior level management. Michael Cooke, former editor-in-chief of the Daily News in New York, will become the new editor-in-chief of the STNG, and current Chicago Sun-Times Editor-in-Chief John Barron is being promoted to executive editor of STNG.

Both will be responsible for the Sun-Times paper, as well as the approximately 100 other dailies and community papers in the greater Chicago market. Barron will handle the operational matters of the group while Cooke will be responsible for editorial matters as the editor-in-chief of each paper.

Cooke returned to Chicago this January after resigning from the Daily News, where his stint as editor-in-chief was documented in the short-lived reality series ?Tabloid Wars? that ran this summer on the Bravo network.

Since his return he has concentrated on making editorial and design changes at several suburban papers, including conversions to tabloid from broadsheet. STNG has also implemented a program of mostly voluntary buyouts that reduced editorial and production staff levels by about 10%.
