Chicago, 'Trib' Settle FOI Suit

Posted
By: Mark Fitzgerald The city of Chicago has agreed to speed up the release of public-information requests as part of a settlement of a lawsuit filed in December 2000 by the Chicago Tribune.

The Tribune charged the city routinely ignored or delayed the newspaper's requests under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In reaching the settlement, the city, which had claimed many of the Tribune FOIA requests were vague or overly broad, did not admit violating the act.
