By: E&P Staff During its quarterly meeting in December, The Chicago Tribune Foundation's board of directors gave the green light on $187,500 in funding for a variety of journalism groups. The grants support organizations that advance the skills of journalists and uphold the rights and principles of journalists.
"We are proud to support these organizations that work to elevate and expand the craft of journalism, and to continue our support of diverse voices in the newsroom," said Owen Youngman, vice president of development for Chicago Tribune Company and president of the Foundation, in a statement.
The groups supported include:

-- Association for Women Journalists -- Chicago
-- Columbia College
-- Committee to Protect Journalists
-- Community Renewal Society
-- The Crimes of War Project
-- National Association of Black Journalists
-- National Association of Black Journalists -- Chicago
-- National Association of Hispanic Journalists
-- National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association
-- National Press Foundation
-- Native American Journalists Association
-- The Reporters Committee of Freedom of the Press
-- Sports Journalism Institute
