By: E&P Staff Subscriber Advantage, the Chicago Tribune's customer loyalty program, signed its 100,000th reader this week, the newspaper said.

The program, which is free to subscribers, launched in January. According to its Audit Bureau of Circulations publisher's statement for the March 2005 reporting period, the Tribune has a home delivery total of 454,2690 Monday through Friday, and 660,571 on Sundays.

Customer benefits of Subscriber Advantage include discounts from Tribune advertisers, special events featuring Tribune writers, access to local attractions, homework and research help from the Info Desk, and leisure time tips from the Entertainment Expert. Online benefits include the ability to browse seven days of the newspaper, a free 365-day archive, and same-day crossword puzzle answers.

Tribune Vice President/Circulation Tim Ryan said the program is "breaking new ground" in the newspaper's understanding of its customers' preferences and behavior. " "Chicago Tribune readers are getting even more value from their newspaper, and they're sticking with us longer," he said in a statement.

Kathleen O'Hara, the paper's senior loyalty marketing manager, said the Tribune will offer "greater customization-matching benefits to the reader affinity groups," in the coming year.
