'Chicago Tribune' Raising Single-Copy Price

Posted
By: E&P Staff On New Year's Eve, the single-copy price of the weekday Chicago Tribune is increasing to 75 cents from 50 cents.

The paper said the price increase, its first in more than 15 years, was necessitated by "cost escalations" over the long period.

The Trib said there are no plans to change the newsstand price of the Sunday paper, which is $1.79.

Home delivery subscription rates will "rise slightly" in 2008, the Tribune added. It noted that the home delivery price will be "an even greater discount from newsstand prices than is the case today."

The rival Chicago Sun-Times, which is priced at 50 cents, said it had no plans to increase its newsstand price.
