By: E&P Staff The Chicago Tribune is going to handle the delivery of rival the Chicago Sun-Times and 10 of its suburban sister publications.
"We reported to you previously that our distribution system is facing significant challenges in both customer service and costs," Cyrus Freidheim, Jr., president and CEO of Sun-Times Media Group, said in a statement. "This agreement with Chicago Tribune enables us to upgrade significantly our service to subscribers and our advertisers and to reduce our costs."
The handoff should be complete by the end of 4Q. The Sun-Times will continue to handle the invoicing, call centers and distribution of single-copy issues.
"We are pleased to add the Sun-Times News Group as a delivery client, sharing efficiencies while we continue to compete for readers and advertisers," Tony Hunter, Chicago Tribune senior vice president of circulation and operations, said in a statement. "This new agreement with the Sun-Times strengthens our position as Chicagoland's premier print distributor."
The Chicago Tribune also distributes The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today among others.
The suburban newspapers under the agreement include the Aurora Beacon News, Elgin Courier News, Joliet Herald News, Naperville Sun, Waukegan News-Sun, Daily Southtown, Gary Post-Tribune, and the Star.
