Chiquita Turn-Around CEO Freidheim Joins Hollinger Int. Board

By: E&P Staff Hollinger International Inc. announced Tuesday that Cyrus F. Freidheim, the long-time Booz Allen & Hamilton executive who was credited with turning around Chiquita Brands International in his two years as chairman and CEO, has been appointed to the board of directors of the newspaper publishing company.

Freidheim was also named to the compensation committee.

Freidheim retired from Chiquita in 2004. He currently serves on the boards of Allegheny Energy and HSBC Financial Corp. Freidheim is also a director of the Brookings Institution, the Chicago Council of Foreign Relations, the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Rush University Medical Center.

"Cyrus Freidheim is well known in the business community for his outstanding skills as a business leader," Hollinger International Chairman and CEO Gordon A. Paris said. "He is recognized for bringing a clear strategic approach to running businesses and positioning them, through focused execution, to deliver substantial growth and value over the long term."

Chicago-based Hollinger International publishes the Chicago Sun-Times and dozens of other dailies and community papers in the Chicago market.
