By: E&P Staff Belo executives said Thursday that for the six months ending September 2005, circulation at The Dallas Morning News dropped 7% for both daily and Sunday compared to the same period last year.
However, the decline from September 2004 to September 2005 is principally a result of a disruption to circulation processes since September 2004 as the paper implements a new system. When compared to the March 2005 figures, daily circulation is down 3% and Sunday circulation is down 2%.
When the Audit Bureau of Circulations releases the paper's audit for September 2005, those figures will provide the second and final benchmark for circulation at the Morning News. The paper's future circulation performance will be gauged by the March 2005 and September 2005 audits.
At The Providence (R.I.) Journal, circulation for the September FAS-FAX is down 2% daily and Sunday for the same period last year. At The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., daily circ is down about 3% and Sunday circ is down around 4%.
