Although it had distribution problems on its first day, the newly independent Honolulu Star-Bulletin says its circulation is rising since it ended a 39-year joint operating agreement (JOA) with The Honolulu Advertiser, owned by Gannett Co. Inc.

According to the Pacific Business News in Honolulu, new Star-Bulletin owner David Black says subscriptions have increased 4% since the March 15 rollout, which added a morning edition to he reborn Star-Bulletin. The distribution problems on the first day were reportedly linked to glitches in subscription lists and problems with breaking in new Australian presses Black had installed at his Oahu Publications printing facility in Kaneohe.
