Citing Newspapers' Economic Woes, California Editors Confab Canceled

By: E&P Staff Fearing that industry?s economic woes would depress attendance, the California Society of Newspaper Editors (CSNE) is canceling its annual convention, which was to start April 27 at Disneyland in Anaheim.

The cancellation was reported Wednesday in the online version of the California Newspaper Publishers Association Bulletin.

?We made this decision based on the belief that present economic pressures on our industry would significantly reduce attendance, causing a financial loss to our organization," CSNE President Mike Jenner, executive editor of The Bakersfield Californian, wrote in a message to members. "We will continue to update members and colleagues on the status of CSNE and convention plans."

CNPA reported the annual awards banquet of the Associated Press News Executives Council, which was to be held in conjunction with the CSNE meeting, will go on as scheduled April 27. For details on the banquet, see the group?s Web site
